- Purpose
- BATHYMETRY_MALLACOOTA_ARC is a 1:10,000 layer used for depth analysis. Marine ecological research requires the type of detailed information contained within the BATHYMETRY_MALLACOOTA_ARC layer. Depth models have wide ranging uses in fisheries management, development of aquaculture and ecological research. The depth information within this layer should not be used for navigational purposes.

- Supplemental Information
- History: This layer replaced MALL_BATHYM in March 2010 Relationship to other Datasets: The BATHYMETRY_MALLACOOTA_ARC layer draws on information stored within the SHORE25 and HYDRO25 layer. The coastline is subject to change especially in areas subject to erosion or mass movement of coastal sediments. Current Design Issues: Bathymetric information is initially collected as point features or spot depths through hydrographic surveys. Isobaths are interpreted either by visual manual methods or by automated techniques. As more data becomes available the positional accuracy of isobaths should be revised. Each acquisition of depth information needs to be documented and assessed before it is incorporated in the layer. Future Design Issues: This layer is a base line data set and future design considerations will be limited. Related Documents: None

- Missing Data
- This layer is complete for Mallacoota Inlet
- Attribute Quality
- All attributes have been checked by DPI Queenscliff, and are complete.
- Positional Accuracy
- The 1:10,000 contours were derived manually from a visual interpretation of the depth points by a draughtsman. The depth information within this layer should not be used for navigation purposes.
Lineage
- Description
- Contours were digitised directly from all the charts. The depth contours were then edited at the point where they overlapped.
- Statement
- Dataset Source: Data was digitised from Victorian Channels Authority (formerly the Port of Melbourne Authority) charts. Depth contours that had been manually interpreted and drafted on the charts by Port of Melbourne Authority were digitised as arcs. The depth charts used to create the layer are listed below. Depth Contours VCA Chart 3675. Lower Lake - Entrance to Kingfisher Point. Scale 1:10,000. Surveyed Aug 1981,1982-Feb 1990. VCA Chart 3676. Entrance to Upper Lake - Snapper Point to Quambie Point. Scale 1:10,000. Surveyed Feb 1991. VCA Chart 3677. Upper Lake - Gravelly Point to Gipsy Point. Scale 1:10,000. Surveyed Feb 1991. VCA Chart 3678. Lower Lake - Allan Head to Harrison Creek. Scale 1:10,000. Surveyed Feb 1990. Datum for contours on all of above charts is 1.380 metres below the P.M. on the masonary sea wall at the Eastern end of Mallacoota wharf.
