Forest Management Zones - analysis product for zoning

Forest management planning (FMP) in Victoria aims to attain a balance between economics, conservation, and social values in managing the States forests. This may be achieved by integrated planning for multiple-use with effective public participation. The FMP process results in a zoning scheme which divides state forest into zones which can be managed for specific purposes, such as conservation or timber harvesting, whilst maintaining an overall balance between uses, and assuring the forest resource is managed sustainably. Please refer to the 'Coverage' section of the 'Quality' page for an explanation of area differences between FMZ 100 and the published Forest Management Plans.

Purpose
The Forest Management Zone layer is designed primarily to support strategic forest planning. It will also be used for Regional Forest Agreement (RFA) analyses, as a basis for sustainable yield determination, and to indicate areas available for harvesting to field based staff. This layer may be used for map production where very detailed representation of zoning is required, as is the case for the WUPS. This coverage contains the revised East Gippsland Forest Management Zoning as at April 2011. Latest updates include the Mildura and Mid Murray Plans and changes to zoning for Central FMA that has resulted from the logging seasons 1998-2001. This was completed on July 21st, 2004. Code exclusions for the coverage are modelled and as such are indicative and used for strategic modelling purposes only.
