  Structural Vegetation (1993) obsolete

dataset: SVEG100_1993
Obsolete - Structural vegetation mapping of forest in Victoria based on the Land Conservation Council (LCC) vegetation classification scheme. The layer is independent of land tenure and is a combination of existing data from multiple sources (predominantly LCC) and primary mapping based on satellite image interpretation dated around 1993.. It was formerly known as SVEG100 but has now been superceded by a 1995 version. (see SVEG100).

Description

Title
Structural Vegetation (1993) obsolete
Alternate title
SVEG100_1993
Purpose
This layer has been produced to provide a non tenure specific structural vegetation layer for the state. SVEG100 has been used to service requirements of the NFI (National Forest Inventory), MDBC (Murray Darling Basin Commission), old growth forest and tree cover studies, but will have wider application for planning activities within NRE. This layer replaced the older LCCVEG100 layer and has now been superceded by SVEG100..

Supplemental Information
Relationship to other Datasets: The layer shares spatial boundaries and derives attributes from a number of library layers including TREE100_9093, LSYS250 and LCCVEG100 as well as data from the Box-Ironbark and River Murray Vegetation Mapping projects. Current Design Issues: To maintain primary structural vegetation attributes in a form that can easily be translated to other vegetation classification schemes. Future Design Issues: The addition of a forest type item that can group similar structural vegetation classes into common forest types for presentation purposes. Related Documents: None SVEG100 - Explanatory Notes. On Departmental file : 94/3886-1, NRS Branch. This document details how existing datasets and new data (including data capture methods) were used to create SVEG100.

Positional Accuracy
Comments
Precision: 100-500m (for existing data sources) up to 1km (for mapping on freehold land). Determination: Based on drafting and digitizing error for existing data sources and field verification for mapping on freehold land.
Conceptual Consistency
Comments
The linework from the existing data sources used varies in detail due to the different mapping scales of the data. Attributes are consistent across whole dataset and their logical associations have been verified.
Missing Data
Comments
The area north and east of Melbourne has been completed with work in the north west beginning in February 1995. Mapping for the area north and east of Melbourne has been completed.
