Modelled above ground forest biomass - 2017
dataset:
FOREST_ABG_2017
Spatial dataset of Above Ground Biomass (AGB) in Victoria's public forest estate. In Victoria, forests are defined as land area greater than 0.5 ha, dominated by trees usually having a single stem and a mature or potentially mature stand height exceeding two metres and with existing or potential crown cover of overstory strata equal to or greater than 20 percent. This definition includes native forests, plantations and areas of trees sometimes described as woodlands.

- Purpose
- This data is a product of a range of data processing steps delivered through the DELWP-RMIT collaboration titled "Landfor". Over 3,000 Landsat images were used to create annualized cloud free best available pixel composite for over 30 years. Those annual image composites have been stacked and temporal spectral trajectory of a pixels (pixel value) were extracted using a range of metric e.g. normalised difference vegetation index, normalised burn ratio index and Tasseled Cap wetness index etc. The "LandTrendr" algorithm was used to analyse the time series pixels to detect change within the time series and identified forest disturbance. The modelled AGB Spatial dataset is an amalgamation of landfor outputs, topographic variables e.g. elevation, slope etc and climate variables e.g. precipitation, temperature etc and data drawn from the Victorian Forest Monitoring Program's measured ground plots using KNN algorithm. Key attribute is Forest AGB biomass measured in t/ha.
