This dataset series contains polygon features delineating key Victorian administrative boundaries. It comprises several data sets and is part of the Vicmap suite of products.

Vicmap Administrative provides an accurate representation of various administrative boundaries across Victoria, aligned with other Vicmap data having varying capture scales from 1:500 to 1:25,000. Its use is intended for a variety of applications including, emergency services, natural resource management, planning and development, and digital map publications.

The planimetric accuracy attainable will be the sum of errors from three sources: the positional accuracy of the source material, errors due to the conversion process, errors due to the manipulation process. For topographic base derived data this calculation represents an error of 8.3m on the ground for 1:25,000 data. A conservative estimate of 10m for the standard deviation will be used in any data quality information. Alternate and equal ways of expressing this error are: not more than 10% of well-defined points will be in error by more than 16 m. The worst case error for the data is +/- 30 m. For vertical positional accuracy of points determined from contours there is an expectation that the elevation accuracy (standard deviation) will be half the value of the contour interval.

Logical consistency is a measure of the degree to which data complies with the technical specification. The test procedures are a mixture of scripts, software based tests and on-screen visual checks.

Dataset Source: Data has initially been drawn from authoritative sources. Detail is primarily aligned to varing versions of Vicmap and other assorted data. Positional accuracy of all content, although accepted as meeting a reasonable level of alignment, cannot therefore be accurately stated. DSE-SII formalises maintenance arrangements with authoritative sources and realigns the data with its underlying defining features (eg road, property boundary) depicted in the Vicmap Framework data sets. An accuracy attribute is given for every feature in Vicmap data. Users must therefore read the accuracy attribute of any given admin feature in order to determine whether it aligns with and therefore inherits the accuracy of the underlying Vicmap product or is part of the original data and may therefore be of a lesser order of accuracy.
