Vicmap Lite - Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE) Region Polygon - 1:250,000 to 1:5,000,000

dataset: VMLITE_DSE_REGION
This layer was part of Vicmap Lite (until 2009) and contains polygon features delineating Department of Sustainability & Environment Regional boundary areas. Vicmap Lite datasets are suited for use between scales of 1: 250,000 and 1 : 5 million. The polygons were sourced from Vicmap Admin. The level of attribute information and the number of vertices has been simplified to suit the 1: 250,000 - 1 : 5 million scale range. The concept of a Scale Use Code has been introduced to help control the level of detail displayed.

The source line work was generalised using an enhanced Douglas and Peucker simplification algorithm. The algorithm keeps so-called critical points that depict the essential shape of a line and removes all other points. The algorithm connects the end nodes of an arc with a "trend line". The distance of each vertex to the trend line is measured perpendicularly. Vertices closer to the line than the tolerance are eliminated. A 80m tolerance was used on this dataset

Description
Redundant attributes removed, Scale Use Code attribute added and populated. Number of verticies reduced using an enhanced Douglas and Peucker simplification algorithm.
