Government Roads
dataset:
GROADS
Part of the Vicmap Crown Land Tenure dataset series - superseded by GOV_ROAD_POLYGON.
This dataset plays a key role in the management of Victoria's Crown land. It is being created (June 2003 - Feb 2004) from migrating LCMP layers into the Vicmap structure. At this stage it does not cover Metropolitan Melbourne.
The layer provides information about Crown Roads.
The dataset is continually maintained, obtaining maintenance from authoritative sources within State Government.
GOV_ROAD_POLYGON is a polygon layer depicting Government Roads including roads as laid out on Parish Plans & proclaimed as Road in Government Gazettes.

- Purpose
- The Government roads layer contains polygons to define government roads. This layer is frequently used by DSE officers to determine the status of roads - government or freehold. Any questions about government road status that can not be resolved at the Regional level are typically resolved by research at Crown Land Registry or a Local Government office.

- Supplemental Information
- History: The government road layer is frequently used by CLM administrative officers to determine whether unused road licences can be issued over land. Unused road licences cannot be issued over freehold roads, so this layer is quite critical to the daily operations of CLM officers. The extent of the government roads have been verified against Government Gazettes and Parish plans. Relationship to other Datasets: Based on the Road polygons within the Parcel layer. Current Design Issues: Layer is tiled on a parish basis Future Design Issues: The capture of groads over the City of Geelong is a future consideration. - Description
- Extensive documentation of the data take-on process is described in the LCMP Data Take-on Manual (Version 7), available through LIMS Spatial Systems Group. Essentially, the initial process involves the processing of the LIG data using an IGDSARC command. Classes, levels and weights are outlined in a former Survey and Mapping Victoria document, "Level map, Graphic Attribute and Feature Code Specifications for Cadastral Data Elements". CLM Regional staff have marked up plans to verify and show the extent of Aglic boundaries through the LCMP program.
