Victorian Wetlands listed in - A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia
dataset:
WETLANDDIR
This layer contains Victorian wetlands listed in the 3rd Edition of 'A Directory of Important Wetlands of Australia' (2001). Descriptions for each wetland are available in the directory which is available on the Environment Austalia website at:
http://www.ea.gov.au/water/wetlands/database/index.html
These wetlands are derived from the WETLAND_1994 CGDL layer, hydrological CGDL layer and other sources such as topographic maps.
The 2017 update of the Victorian Wetland Inventory (Current) resulted in improved accuracy of the boundary of a number of wetlands, based on on-ground mapping. WETLAND_CURRENT provided the source data to improve the WETLANDDIR dataset.

Description
- Title
- Victorian Wetlands listed in - A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia
- Alternate title
- WETLANDDIR
- Purpose
- Wetlanddir provides a spatial representation of wetlands listed in 'A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia'. Directory entries cover a diverse range of wetlands including lakes, dams, swamps, rivers, floodplains. alpine bogs and estuaries. A directory entry may include a discrete wetland or a complex of several wetlands.
- Supplemental Information
- Relationship to other Datasets: Closely tied to WETLAND_1994 and the HYDRO100 layer. The relevant line form HYDRO100, HYDRO25, HYDROP100, HYDROP25, COAST25, VIC100, PLMMT100, EVC100, VEG25, RAMSAR100, WETLAND_1788 and TOPO25 are added to the linework from the WETLAND_1994 layer. Current Design Issues: Although this dataset was derived mainly from the WETLAND_1994, any data based on linework had to be buffered to create polygons before they could be appended and dissolved so that all wetlands with the same NREid and EAid were grouped together. Additional data was also taken from the WETLAND_1788, HYDRO100, HYDRO25, HYDROP100, HYDROP25, COAST25, PLMMT100, VEG25, EVC100, VIC100 and TOPO25 layer for wetlands which were smaller than 1 hectare and for the rivers and streams data. This layer has been specifically designed to be used with 'A Directory of Important Wetlands in Australia', however specific information on some of the wetlands can be obtained from the WETLAND_1994 layer and associated tables (eg Victorian wetland categories, names, grid references). A related layer is the RAMSAR100 layer. - Description
- Collection Method: Derived data used existing data layers in CGDL
- Description
- Relevant HYDRO100, HYDRO25, HYDRO100, HYDRO25, VIC100 lines were buffered at 25m, 50m, 100m or 200m depending on the polygons required. TOPO25 lines were used to edit a PLMMT100 polygon. The PAT and AAT for all the datasets were edited and then the polygons were appended then dissolved.

- Linework in the WETLANDS_1994, WETLANDS_1788, HYDRO100, HYDRO25, HYDROP100, HYDROP25, PLMMT100, COAST25, VEG25, EVC100, VIC100, RAMSAR100 and TOPO25 were selected for this layer. The WETLAND_1994 layer precision is 10m to 100m. Ad-hoc comparisons with 1:25,000 layer data showed good correlation in shape and size, but with errors of the order indicated above in terms of position and/or rotation.
