2009-10 West Gippsland LiDAR Project

The West Gippsland LiDAR Project is a DSE project with dual program partners. The EcoMarkets program is interested in using LiDAR based data for investigating various landscape values on freehold land with particular focus on remnant vegetation structure. The current EcoMarkets areas of interest are the Strezlecki Ranges and Gippsland Plains Bio Regions in the West Gippsland CMA. For its part, Spatial Information Infrastructure (SII) is aiming to fill coverage gaps in between existing LiDAR data sets to extend DSEs high accuracy Vicmap DTM. Bringing both requirements together, an area of approximately 1000km2 of almost contiguous land area largely bounded by previous LiDAR projects in the Gippsland Region has been identified. The coverage required has been divided into 4 priority sub-areas.
