Wetland landscape profiles
dataset:
WETLAND_LANDSCAPE
Wetland landscape profiles represent a regionalisation of wetlands at the landscape scale. They are based on variation in regional wetland vegetation as described in Appendix 3 of Department of Sustainability and Environment (2012) Index of Wetland Condition assessment of wetland vegetation update - December 2012. Department of Sustainability and Environment, East Melbourne, Victoria.

- Purpose
- The wetland landscape profile dataset has two purposes. 1. To provide spatial guidance to assist with the identification of wetland ecological vegetation classes used for Index of Wetland Condition assessments. 2. To assist in wetland classification by providing a landscape regionalisation of wetland type as part of Victoria's wetland classification framework (to be used in conjunction with the WETLAND_CURRENT dataset). The classification framework is described in Department of Environment and Primary Industries (in prep). A new framework for classifying Victoria's wetlands - 2014. Department of Environment and Primary Industries, East Melbourne, Victoria. Publication of this document is scheduled for June 2014.

- Statewide Completeness Verification: The wetland landscape profiles where based on the description of the wetland landscape profiles in Appendix 3 of Department of Sustainability and Environment (2012) Index of Wetland Condition assessment of wetland vegetation update, December 2012, Department of Sustainability and Environment, East Melbourne, Victoria. They were verified by an expert on wetland vegetation in Victoria.
- Excess Data
- All polygons have been coded with a wetland landscape profile
- Attribute Quality
- Not Known
- Positional Accuracy
- The position of the wetland landscape profile boundaries is intended to be indicative at the scale of 1:100 000. On-ground interpretation is recommended in assigning individual wetlands to a particular wetland landscape profile for wetlands located near polygon boundaries.
Lineage
- Description
- The approach used in this project was to spatially define wetland landscape profiles in Victoria using expert knowledge of wetland EVC distribution in relation to key regional and landscape attributes. EVC distribution was based on the description of wetland landscape profiles (DSE 2012). The lacustrine potential wetland habitat was excluded from the spatial analysis as lakes are likely to be distributed across most wetland regions. The method for spatially defining wetland landscape profiles in Victoria is summarised below. IBRA subregions were selected as base data set as there was broad similarity between IBRA subregions and several wetland landscape profiles. Each wetland landscape profile was defined by refining one or more IBRA subregions using other environmental variables, including vegetation types, geomorphic units, presence of rivers and wetlands, elevation and species distribution. A full description of the method is provided in the Wetland landscape profiles development process.
