The LiDAR 1m DEM Footprints are consistent in their representation and attribution of the DEM datasets contributing to the VIcmap 1m DEM.

Attribute Quality

Polygon attribution accurately reflects the date of data capture as well as vertical accuracy and other key source data elements that enable the identification of the contributing DEM datasets to the VIcmap 1m DEM. 

Positional Accuracy

The polygon boundaries accurately reflect the extent of the data represented in the corresponding DEM dataset. Horizontal accuracy is rated as +/- 1m RMSE. 

Lineage

Description

Polygon footprints for each DEM dataset used in the Vicmap 1m DEM are merged in the same date order that the DEM datasets are mosaiced. The footprints are updated each time a dataset is added or subtracted from the Vicmap 1m DEM and then published as a WFS. In order to keep the footprints layer to a manageable size, any polygons less than 0.1 km2 in area have been removed. 

Statement

Dataset Source: Like the Vicmap 1m DEM utilises datasets from the Vicmap LiDAR DEMs collection, the Vicmap 1m DEM Footprints also derive from the footprints of the Vicmap LiDAR DEMs collection. All of the DEM datasets and their respective footprints used in the Vicmap 1m DEM derive from LiDAR survey projects undertaken through the States Coordinated Imagery Program (CIP). LiDAR surveys are conducted on behalf of the State by commercial aerial survey companies that have qualified for the relevant State services panels. Acquisition planning is driven by purchase partner investment in the CIP program and is implemented in an on-demand basis. Aerial survey most often occurs as a single project achievable within one flying season by a single commercial supplier. As investment and funding allows, larger capture programs may occur that span multiple flying seasons and require multiple commercial suppliers to complete. LiDAR survey within Victoria is achievable throughout the whole calendar year, however most data capture has been conducted during the spring, summer, and autumn seasons (November through to May).
