Firewood collection is allowed in designated firewood collection areas. Collection areas are located, where possible, to avoid sites of environmental and cultural significance, and to make use of the by-products of activities such as commercial timber harvesting and road construction. Purpose
The Victorian government has reviewed the system for collection of firewood on public land. The following changes will come into effect on 1 September 2011 in all State forests (and those parks where collection is allowed): - A permit is no longer required to collect firewood for personal use. Firewood collected for personal use cannot be sold. -Collection is only allowed in designated firewood collection areas during state-wide firewood collection seasons - Autumn (1 April to 30 June) and Spring (1 September to 30 November). The Spring season may be closed prior to 30 November if a fire danger period is declared. The changes make firewood collection on public land more affordable and straightforward for the community, and safeguard the environmental sustainability of our forests and parks.
