Victorian Biodiversity Atlas flora records (unrestricted) for sites with high spatial accuracy

dataset: VBA_FLORA25
This layer contains a snapshot of flora taxa records from the Victorian Biodiversity Atlas (VBA) (including most threatened taxa). The main attributes in this layer are survey id, survey location, date, time, locational accuracy, taxa recorded, counts, observation type, survey type, collector, and reliability of the record. The VERS_DATE column identifies the currency of the data. Although this is a point layer, the actual accuracy of the site can range from +/- 1m to +/- 500m. The FFG field has been updated to reflect the 2021 FFG Act amendments, and the Victorian Advisory List (VICADV) is now obsolete. This layer excludes restricted taxa records. These records are contained in the related (but restricted) dataset VBA_FLORA_RESTRICTED. Public users wishing to view the general location of these records should refer to the related dataset VBA_RESTRICTED_1M.

Purpose
This layer is to be used to indicate sites and general localities where flora taxa have been recorded. It is not a presence/absence dataset and includes both incidental records submitted by the public as well as the results of scientific surveys. Users should take particular note of the MAX_ACC_KM field which describes the MAXIMUM accuracy of the site as a radius around the point. Sites with an accuracy worse than +/- 500m are contained in the related dataset VBA_FLORA100. Taxon records considered sensitive by DELWP are contained in the related (but restricted) dataset VBA_FLORA_RESTRICTED, or the denatured VBA_RESTRICTED_1M. The dataset contains over 2.5 million points and is best used at large scales or by querying for particular taxa if it is to be drawn across larger areas.

Precision: 15 to 500 metres Determination: Localities are generally read from 1:100,00 maps, or sometimes from GPS. A number of checks are made to verify geocode.
