Vicmap Land Administration Themes - Posctode Polygon
dataset:
VLAT_POSTCODE_POLYGON
Part of the VLAT dataset series. Full topology. Polygon layer. attribution (postcode numbers, unique feature identification, data quality pointer etc) is available. These Boundaries are created by notification from Australia Post as their Post Code boundaries are aligned with Locality.
This dataset s a raw superset of VMADMIN_POSTCODE_POLYGON. It shows the current and retired states of each feature instance. It supports feature versioning (UFI_RETIRED) and enables feature edting chaining (UFI_OLD).
Aligned to Vicmap Property.

- Purpose
- Vicmap Admin provides an accurate representation of various adminstrative boundaries across Victoria, at a capture scale of 1:25,000. It is used in a variety of applications, particularly in emergency services, natural resource management, planning and development, and digital map publications.

Quality
- Conceptual Consistency
- The allowable error in logical consistency is less than 1%. Where less than 1% of logical consistency errors are permissible the entire population is tested. The logical consistency of the data is tested using a mixture of UNIX scripts and ARC/INFO commands and visual verification against boundaries and names supplied.
- Missing Data
- Statewide coverage Completeness Verification: As postcode boundaries are aligned to localities under the Australia Post realignment program, Spatial Information Infrastructure will align postcodes to Vicmap Property. Data will be submitted to AP for their verification.
- Attribute Quality
- The allowable error in attribute accuracy is 0%.Where less than 1% of attribute errors are permissible the entire population is tested.
- Positional Accuracy
- The planimetric accuracy attainable will be the sum of errors from thee sources: -the positional accuracy of the source material -errors due to the conversion process -errors due to the manipulation process The measure of accuracy given for SDRN data is the source scale of the mapping from which the digital data was initially derived. Source map scales, from 1: 40 to 1:25,000.It is not possible to guarantee the final planimetric accuracy of the SDRN other than estimate possible errors due to the positional accuracy of the source material and data conversion and manipulation processes.A conservative estimate of 5m and 20m for the standard deviation of the SDRN within the Melbourne Metropolitan area and Rural areas respectively will be used in any data quality information.Alternate and equal ways of expressing this error are:Not more than 10% of well defined points will be in error by more than 8.2m for the Melbourne Metropolitan area and 33m. for rural areas. The worst case error for the data is 15m for the Melbourne Metropolitan area and (60m for Rural areas).
