The original PLMMT100PLY mmtgeneral and state attributes are used to aggregate polygons into one of five broad management categories. These categories are: 1: Marine Parks and Reserves (State = 'Vic Coastal Waters') 2: Parks and Reserves (Mmtgeneral = 'Parks and Nature Conservation Reserves' OR 'Other Reserves' OR 'National Parks Act & Nature Conservation Reserves' OR 'Other Conservation Reserves') 3: State Forest (Mmtgeneral = 'State Forest') 4: Softwood Plantation (Mmtgeneral = 'Softwood Plantation') 5: Other Public Land (Mmtgeneral = 'Other Public Land' OR 'Unknown' OR 'Commonwealth Land') 

Attribute Quality

COASTAL WATERS - term defines states water jurisdiction, being 3 nautical miles from the high water mark.. MARINE PARKS AND RESERVES - term to include marine national parks, marine sanctuaries, marine parks, marine reserves and marine & coastal parks, but excludes marine aquaculture areas. OTHER PUBLIC LAND - term to include coastal reserves, forest parks, public land water frontages, water production, community use areas, alpine resorts, marine aquaculture areas, earth resources (mining) areas, stone reserves, services & utilities areas, and uncategorized public land. PARKS AND RESERVES - term to include national parks, state parks, regional parks, coastal parks, national heritage park, wilderness parks, reference areas, nature conservation reserves, most natural features reserves, and historic & cultural features reserves. Excludes public land water frontages, community use areas, stone reserves, and CLRA reserves for services & utilities and so on. SOFTWOOD PLANTATION - term to include, only public land. Excludes hardwood plantations. STATE FOREST - term includes reserved forest.

The source line work was generalised using a 2000m weed tolerance.

Level of detail reduced to suit 1:1 million - 1:5 million scale range. Redundant attributes removed, Scale Use Code attribute added and populated. 

Statement

Dataset Source: The dataset is derived from PLMMT100PLY via an ARC/INFO aml process called plmgen.aml This process performs the following steps. 1: copy the latest version of PLMMT100PLY from the SDE update area. 2: drop unwanted marine polygons. 3: add a field that reflects the "aspect ratio" of features in order to eliminate long skinny features. 4: drop unwanted polygons asssociated with linear features (ratio less than 100). 5: join mmtsource.lut items so that MMTGEN_ID value can be determined. 6: regroup polygons in source cover based on mmtgeneral and state values. 7: dissolve polygons in source cover based on plmgroup values. 8: eliminate undersize polygons in source cover based on scale code. 9: drop unwanted polygons where area less than 1000 ha. 10: generalize polygons in source cover using weed tolerance of 2000m. 11: dissolve remaining polygons in source cover based on plmgroup values. 12: copy resultant cover to SDE update area and load into SDE via SDMP process.
