Terrestrial Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem (GDE) Density
dataset:
GDE_TERR_DENSITY
This dataset is based on the Potential Terrestrial Groundwater Dependent Ecosystem (GDE) mapping undertaken by Dresel et al. (2010). Dresel et al. (2010) recognised that the dataset over estimated the occurrence of mapped terrestrial GDEs. For this reason, the GDE dataset was refined to provide information regarding the relative density of GDEs across the State. Areas of very low GDE density were assigned less weighting than an areas with very high GDE density GDE. This provided a suitable solution to the problem of mapped GDE over estimation.

- Dataset Source: The original GDE dataset was produced by Dresel et al. (2010) in vector format. The vector dataset was converted to a 25m x 25m raster grid by intersecting the grid with the vector dataset and querying for the presence (= 1) or absence (= 0) of a mapped terrestrial GDE. This grid was aggregated up to 100 m x 100 m grid size (i.e. 16 smaller grids were combined to 1 large grid) and the density of terrestrial GDEs within this larger grid was calculated by the number of 25m x 25m grids that recorded the presence of a GDE through the previous step. The minimum density was 0 (i.e. 0 out of 16 smaller grids recorded a GDE within the larger grid) and the maximum density was 16 (i.e. 16 out of 16 smaller grids recorded a GDE within the larger grid). Density classification was undertaken using a 1km proximity radius. The cells that did not record a GDE were excluded prior to the density classification. The final GDE dataset has been classified as follows: 0 = No Terrestrial GDE 1 = Low Density Terrestrial GDE 2 = Low-Medium Density Terrestrial GDE 3 = Medium Density Terrestrial GDE 4 = High Density Terrestrial GDE Dataset Originality: Derived
