Land Use of the North Central Catchment Management Authority
dataset:
LANDUSE100_NC
This landuse map has been prepared under contract for the North Central Catchment Management Authority (NC-CMA). The classification scheme followed here was the Australia Land Use Mapping (ALUM) classification version 5 (BRS, 2001). ALUM version 5 was developed by BRS as a modification of Baxter - Russell Classification, in coordination with State agencies.
This product is based on information from a number of sources: Corporate Geospatial Data Library (CGDL), DPI regional data sets, satellite imagery, the planning maps from the Infrastructure Department, aerial photgraphy, CFA Mapbooks, and the newly acquired field surveys information.

- * Data Collation: Integration of existing datasets containing information relating to landuse including remotely sensed Landsat Thematic Mapper data, aerial photography, DPI/DSE Corporate datasets including cadastre, public land, infrastructure and planning data. This data was compiled in Arc/Info format, as per the technical specifications in the BRS landuse mapping handbook. * Interpretation (draft maps for field verification): This stage involved interpreting landuse, creating a landuse mask dataset from source datasets, assigning appropriate landuse codes and preparing draft landuse maps for verification and field checking. * Verification: Field verification of draft landuse maps included the annotation of field maps on the basis of expert advice and field checking. The primary focus of this activity was to capture agricultural landuse and incorporated extensive windsceen surveys, utilizing GPS mapping technology, and local knowledge of DPI/DSE and G-MW staff. * Final Editing: Final editing was carried out using ArcGIS software and incorporating field survey datasets, remote sensing and aerial photographic interpretation, ancillary datasets prepared in step 1 and CFA mapbooks.
