Vegetation Cover for metropolitan Melbourne 2018
dataset:
VEGETATION_COVER_2018
This dataset contains vegetation features represented by polygons as at 2018. Each polygon is based on ABS mesh blocks which have been subdivided by Vicmap property road casement polygons.
It's part of a collection of data from Plan Melbourne Action 91 initiative also referred to as Cooling & Greening or Vegetation and Urban heat mapping.

- Purpose
- This dataset has been produced to monitor the vegetation status of metro Melbourne region. The modified mesh block geography will assist users to perform spatial analysis to support policy and local decision making. There are many analytics within the data to provide information on the vegetation height, area and land use. A full list of data attributes are in the attached spreadsheet. An associated dataset on heat mapping, (heat vulnerability index) has been produced for the same time period. Search for heat mapping in Spatial Datamart or data.vic.gov.au.

Attribute Quality
- Comments
- The Heat Vulnerability Index attribute is based on quintiles and therefore only 5 possible values exist. Multiple data sources are used to derive the indicators, and ABS data from 2016 has been used to assess heat vulnerability as of 2014. Due to attribute accuracy and timeframe misalignment of underlying datasets (e.g. the vegetation mapping) there is a possibility that a small number of SA1s have been assigned the incorrect quintile. To the extent these cases exist, the attribute accuracy should be +/- 1 quintile.
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Equivalent to the source ABS SA1 dataset Positional Accuracy.
Conceptual Consistency
- Comments
- There are no overlaps, invalid geometries, or duplicates.
Missing Data
- Comments
- Greater Melbourne metro region
