  Sites of Significance for Rainforest

dataset: RFSOS100
This layer identifies areas defined as sites of significance for rainforest initially delineated by David Cameron in 1990 as part of the statewide rainforest survey and subsequently reviewed by Bill Peel in 1999. This revised 2012 version is necessitated by changes in the integrity of selected sites or site values as a consequence of fire or harvesting history in the period 1990-2012 which warrants a re-evaluation of the boundary or priority zoning of such sites. Priority classification: 1 highest priority area through to 5 lower priority area. Additional fields to describe Priority, Significance, Site_ID were added on 27 Feb 2019.

Purpose
This layer provides the boundaries of sites of significance for Rainforest initially delineated by David Cameron in 1990 as part of the statewide rainforest survey and subsequently reviewed by Bill Peel in 1999. The layer identifies the statewide significance rating assigned to each site which can be either of National, State or Regional significance. These sites are used in the Forest Management Planning process and also provide guidance in the management of rainforest values in parks and reserves under a range of tenures. Some sites, which fell within state forest at the time of forest management plan development, have been further subdivided into zones of differential priority (where 1 is the highest priority rating) to provide further guidance in the distribution of rainforest values within larger or more complex sites of significance.

Supplemental Information
History: This revised 2012 version is necessitated by changes in the integrity of selected sites or site values as a consequence of fire or harvesting history in the period 1990-2012 which warrants a re-evaluation of the boundary or priority zoning of such sites. Current Design Issues: All site boundaries and, where relevant, priority zone boundaries, have now been digitised and all sites have been assigned significance ratings consistent with the reviewed status published in 'Rainforests and Cool Temperate Mixed Forests of Victoria' by Bill Peel in January 1999. Future Design Issues: No future design considerations are envisaged. Related Documents: None
