Purpose
Suburban_Parkland_Boundaries is a spatial representation of the proposed Suburban Parklands within the Melbourne area. The Suburban Parks Program was an election commitment in 2018. The boundaries may overlay multiple reserves and assets as the SPP groups boundaries by the SPP theme. Constructed and proposed linkages in the forms of walking trails, bike trails etc are not included in this data (refer to fact sheets or the relevant future directions plan (where appropriate). Linkages to further information are attributed in the dataset. The parklands are broken down to three types; Co-managed Parks, Connecting Parks and Three New Parks (3NP). The 3 new regional parks give communities in Melbourne’s growing west and south-east suburbs more opportunities to connect with nature and for recreation. These public open spaces will improve lifestyle options for local communities, help protect our native wildlife, increase climate change resilience, attract visitors and strengthen cultural heritage. Connecting Parklands - connects existing and new parklands to create a chain of parks and linked recreational spaces. in Melbourne's south-east. Co-managed Parklands - A key component of SPP is the creation of 4 of Melbourne’s largest metropolitan parklands in partnership with future parkland managers. For each park, a Parkland Partnership Group comprising Traditional Owners (TOs), local councils, water corporations, Parks Victoria, and the Merri Creek Management Committee (represented on the marram baba Merri Creek Partnership Group only) collaboratively develop parkland plans to guide the expansion and creation of new parklands. The parks will be co-managed by multiple landowners that are represented on the Parklands Partnership Group. Each park has a commitment to self-determination and returning land to TOs. Addition of land to the parks will be achieved via a number of land acquisition mechanisms, including developer contributions, a cost-effective way of delivering new parkland for Melbourne.

Supplemental Information
History: the data has been generated from project members and partners and the accuracy ranges subject to source, i.e. manual line vs digitisation of boundaries from existing feature classes. Current Design Issues: Given minor differences between PLM25, PARKRES and CrownLand the majority of boundaries have been adjusted to align (where appropriate) to the V_Parcel_MP feature class. This is considered to be most accurate given the Digital Cadastre Modernisation Project. However, it is noted that this process is still being undertaken in some LGA's and thus further revisions will be required. There are also boundary alignments to be resolved especially in relation to cadastre, MSA BCS boundaries and planning schemes. Related Documents: None Refer to PLM25, PARKRES, V_PARCEL_MP Last updated 29/08/2024

Quality

Conceptual Consistency
Polygon attributes are restricted to SPP types. For certain parklands the complete boundary has been topologically verified against V_Parcel_MP (i.e. Frankston to Mornington, Seaford). Other parklands could comprise a mixture of sources.
Missing Data
The feature class only contains information and boundaries for Parklands in the vicinity of Melbourne, project managed by DEECA under the Suburban Parks Program
Attribute Quality
Text attributes are derived from the Suburban Park Program team within DEECA. The boundaries where appropriate have been aligned with the V_Parcel_MP, noting that there will parcels within certain areas that have yet to be updated through the Digital Cadastre Modernisation project. Revision of the boundaries will continue. There are discrepancies between Cadastre, MSA BCS and planning scheme boundaries.
Positional Accuracy
Polygons are derived from multiple sources: - Vicmap parcels (1:2,500 - 1:25,000) - Digital certified plan boundaries for areas recently scheduled under the National Parks Act 1975 at (1:25,000) - Boundaries digitised by the Land Management Policy Branch (based on 1:25,000 topography) - PLM25 (1:25,000)
