Catchment Management Authority boundaries
dataset:
CMA100
This layer represents the Catchment Management Authority (CMA) boundaries (derived from CALP100). It is indicative and should not be used for operational decisions about funding.
The CMAs were established on 1 July 1997 under the Catchment and Land Protection Act 1994 (CaLP Act) to create a whole catchment approach to natural resource management in Victoria. The CMAs combined the roles of the former, River Management Boards and CaLP Boards, and community-based advisory groups such as salinity plan implementation groups and water quality working groups. The 2014 correction was on the West Gippsland and East Gippsland CMAs border around the Gippsland Lakes. The 2021 amendment was a realignment between the Melbourne Water boundary and surrounding CaLP regions. These boundaries now align with the waterway management district boundaries for Melbourne Water and surrounding CaLP regions. This followed an amalgamation of the Port Phillip and Westernport CMA with Melbourne Water as a new authority administering the Port Phillip and Westernport CaLP region in December 2021.
It is accurate to +/- 100 metres for 80% of the time.

Description
- Title
- Catchment Management Authority boundaries
- Alternate title
- CMA100
- Purpose
- This dataset broadly identifies the Catchment Management Authority (CMA) boundaries. The definition of these administrative/cultural boundaries was required for the legal process (definition of jurisdiction). The boundaries can be used to subset other natural resource datasets, the boundaries are accurate to +/-100 metres for 80% of all boundaries. The data should not be used to allocate funding to a particular CMA, based on whether a project is in or out of a particular CMA. The 2014 correction on the West Gippsland and East Gippsland CMAs border around the Gippsland Lakes. The 2021 amendment on the Melbourne Water and surrounding CaLP boundaries. The additional "CALP_REGION" field, which was incorporated in the 2024 amendment, is described in Division 2, S.10 of the Catchment and Land Protection (CaLP) Act 1994 (legislation.vic.gov.au)
