All Groundwater Use Density
dataset:
GWU_ALL_DENSITY
All Groundwater Use Density is a density distribution surface of groundwater use in ML/km2 for Victoria. This includes the rate of groundwater use from: (1) metered licensed entitlement bores; and estimated groundwater use from: (2) unmetered licensed entitlement bores, and; (3) stock and domestic bores.
Metered groundwater use information was sourced from Southern Rural Water, Goulburn Murray Water and Grampians-Wimmera-Mallee Water. The years of metered use range from 2008/2009 to 2009/2010 across the rural water authorities. Stock and domestic bore locations were derived from the Victorian Groundwater Management System (GMS). Unmetered licensed entitlement bore information was sourced from the Victorian Water Register.

- Dataset Source: The following process was used to generate the dataset: (1) All metered bore data were collated for Southern Rural Water (SRW), Goulburn Murray Water (GMW) and Grampians-Wimmera-Mallee Water (GWMW); (2) Stock and domestic bore data from the Groundwater Management System (GMS) and unmetered licensed entitlement bore data from the Water Register were collated and assimilated; (3) The total metered groundwater use data was then validated against the Victorian Water Accounts per GMU and Unincorporated Area. Where necessary, unmetered licensed entitlement bores and estimate use for these bores was included, based on the equation: Total Unmetered Licensed Entitlement (of bores that plot in the GMU) * Factor = Estimated Unmetered Use Volume (as per the Water Accounts); (4) For all Stock and Domestic bores, groundwater use was estimated at 2ML/yr/bore across the State, except in the Nepean GMU where the estimated use was 0.5 ML/yr/bore - as per the Victorian Water Accounts; (5) Bore point density was produced using the groundwater use volume for each bore. The initial raster cell resolution was 100m and each cell was queried within a 1000m search radius, such that the cell recorded the volume of groundwater use within 1000m of its location; (6) The 100m resolution density was aggregated to 1000m cell resolution to create the average of the density values of the 100m cells within a one square kilometre area. Attribute Quality
- Comments
- Attribute values are as accurate as the attributes of the source data used to derive the final dataset.
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Highly variable. Borehole locations range from survey grade accuracy (+/- 0.10m horizontal) through to locations digitised from 1:100,000 scale mapping.
