- Description
- Laser strikes were classified into ground and non-ground points using a based upon algorithms tailored to major terrain/vegetation combinations existing in the project area and applied across the entire project area. The quality of the classification was further improved by manual checking and editing of the LiDAR data using intensity imagery and orthophoto imagery as a reference. The definition of the ground may be less accurate in isolated pockets of dissimilar terrain/vegetation combinations. Following classification, LiDAR files were exported into XYZI textfile format. The classification of non-ground features into classes such as buildings and vegetation has been largely automated with some manual intervention. The building and vegetation datasets are therefore only 70-80% accurate. Vegetation has only been classified if it is greater than 2m above the ground combined with tree crowns greater than 8m or vegetation clusters greater than 64 square metres. Anomalies such as powerlines, transmission towers and poles will exist in the automatically classified data.
