Port Phillip Bay Recreational Artificial Fishing Reefs
dataset:
PPB_RECREATION_FISHING_REEFS
This point layer represents the approximate locations of the centre of the 6 artificial fishing reefs located in Port Phillip
Bay installed to provide recreational fishing opportunities. Three boat based reefs are located on the Eastern side of Port
Phillip Bay: Yakka Reef off Frankston, Tedesco Reef off Seaford and Rec Reef off Aspendale were installed in 2009. Three shore
based reefs in a water depth of between 3-4.5 metres, approximately 40 metres seaward of Frankston Pier, and 40 to 70 metres
seaward of Portarlington Pier's rock-wall section and the end of Altona Pier were installed in 2012.

- Supplemental Information
- History: Original data created by FRB included three offshore reef locations. Data updated in 2015 with addition of three new near-shore reefs. Current Design Issues: The position of the shore based reefs was estimated based on a description on the info sheet available online.
