SMARTLINE_VICTORIA
Revised version of the Victorian section of the National Smartline dataset, referred to as the Coastal Geomorphic Map of Australia, created for OzCoasts by the University of Tasmania based on the SV_Coastline_2008 dataset. The new coastline of Victoria is primarily based on contour information derived from Future Coasts Topographic LIDAR and reviewing this dataset against recent aerial photography.
Attributes from the National Smartline dataset have been transfered to the new Victorian coastline.

Attribute Quality
- Comments
- Given unique identifiers were assigned to sections of coast in the Smartline dataset in a sequential order, one validation review undertaken on the new Victorian coastline involved identifying sections of coast where the order of unique line segment identifiers in the new coast line were not sequential. A reliability attribute was assigned to the coastline to identify these sections of coast.
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Sourced digital accuracy from imagery is within 50cm pixel resolution. Vector information captured at approx 1:1000 mapscale resolution. Topological testing was undertaken for shared nodes. It follows that the estimated accuracy of the spatial data is +/-2.0m. Given the time differences in LIDAR returns it is clear that the coastline does not consistently depict high or low tide, but rather a general or average view of the coastline (or possibly a mean sea level) on a statewide basis
