Purpose

To support the following objectives under the Salvage and Translocation Protocol within the growth corridors: - Assist the conservation of target species within the growth corridors - Assist the restoration of existing habitat or colonisation of newly created habitat - Undertake salvage and translocation of threatened species as a management experiment until there is long-term evidence to demonstrate its success or failure. This dataset will also track when a salvage and translocation has been undertaken for accountability purposes.

Lineage

Description

Criteria for parcel selection, based on individual species/community requirements: 1) Spiny rice-flower and incidental flora species applicable only to the west and north-west growth corridors. Parcels were selected based on the following: (i) Land parcels containing records of SRF, or (ii) Areas mapped as native vegetation patches of EVC 'Plains Grassland' or 'Plains Grassy Woodland' that are equal to or greater than 0.5 hectares in size and have a habitat hectares 'understorey' score greater than 10* (only for site survey data). Modelled data was assumed to meet the understory score for this purpose as a precautionary approach. 2) Matted Flax-lily and incidental flora species applicable only to the northern growth corridor. Parcels were selected based on the following: (i) Land parcels containing records of MFL, or (ii) Land parcels contain native vegetation patches of any Ecological Vegetation Class that are greater or equal to 0.5 hectares and that have a habitat hectares understory score greater than 10 for site surveyed data only. Modelled data was assumed to meet the understory score for this purpose as a precautionary approach. 3) Striped Legless Lizard is applicable only to the west and north-west growth corridors. Parcels were selected based on the following: (i) Areas mapped as native vegetation patches of any EVC that are equal to or greater than 0.5 hectares in size. 4) Seasonal Herbaceous Wetlands applicable to all growth corridors. Parcels were selected based on the following: (i) Areas mapped as site confirmed seasonal herbaceous wetland (i.e. at least 3 hectares in area) whose fragments are greater than 0.5 hectares in size within a parcel. Note: where species records were used to select a parcel, these were checked against aerial imagery and expert opinion to ensure they did not occur, for instance within a ploughed field or were inaccurately located). Each of the above conditions were derived from the data sources and processed using ArcGIS model builder. Parcels that matched each of the species/community conditions were attributed to a version of the parcel dataset.

Dataset Source: The salvage and translocation dataset is derived from the following key datasets, as well as a set of criteria outlined in the Protocol. Data sources: - Native vegetation Time stamped for growth areas (BCS) (see NV2011_TS_GA) - BCS Conservation Areas (see MSA_BCS_CONS_AREA) - Species records collected during time stamping (Victorian Biodiversity Atlas) - Seasonal Herbaceous Wetlands (MSA_BCS_SHW) - Parcel boundaries (VicMap products) Dataset Originality: Primary & Derived
