Thickness Corrected Latrobe Group, Gippsland Basin
dataset:
THICK_LATROBE_GP
This dataset is a raster layer depicting the thickness of the Latrobe Group, Otway Basin. A number of processes were applied to the Top and Base to derive the Thickness of the Latrobe Group.
The dataset was compiled by GHD to inform the report 'Potential Influences of Geological Structures on Groundwater Flow Systems' for DEPI's Secure Allocation Future Entitlements (SAFE) Project.

- Dataset Source: Seismic horizons mapped by the Department of Environment and Primary Industries (DEPI) and 3D Geo were corrected by tying horizon depths (MSS) to DEPI-supplied stratigraphic formation tops for the Top Latrobe Group. Faults were digitised from the imaged raw horizons. All corrected horizon difference data at each of the bores were gridded using the appropriate top horizon faults in Surfer10 (minimum curvature with fault gridding). The depth difference grid was added to the raw horizon data to correct to DEPI bore formation tops. Corrected grids were differenced for isopach (thickness) maps. This horizon correction exercise again showed the variability (documented in the DEPI data) of interpreted horizon tops between various basin study workers and groundwater mappers over the years, depending on the stratigraphic (biodata, lithological, seismic or geophysical log) approaches/criteria and the basin study approaches/purposes at the time of the work. Software-wise, the horizons and thickness maps are limited also by the capabilities of the Surfer10 fault gridding methods (minimum curvature within fault blocks only). Better software (e.g. industry standard Petrosys or equivalents) are available and is recommended for use for further detailed work. All raw data was supplied in MGA Zone55 projection and was converted to the VICGRID projection for computations, analysis and final display. Dataset Originality: Derived
