Vicmap Land Administration Themes - Local Government Area Polygon Aligned to Property
dataset:
VLAT_LGA_POLYGON
Part of the VLAT dataset series. This dataset contains the polygons for the authoritative LGA boundary dataset.
This dataset contains. Local Government Boundaries (LGA's). LGA's are as defined by Local Government Victoria, Dept. for Victorian Communities (DVC).
This dataset s a raw superset of VMADMIN_LGA_POLYGON. It shows the current and retired states of each feature instance. It supports feature versioning (UFI_RETIRED) and enables feature edting chaining (UFI_OLD).
Aligned to Vicmap Property.

Description
- Title
- Vicmap Land Administration Themes - Local Government Area Polygon Aligned to Property
- Alternate title
- VLAT_LGA_POLYGON
- Purpose
- Vicmap Admin provides an accurate representation of various adminstrative boundaries across Victoria, at a capture scale of 1:25,000. It is used in a variety of applications, particularly in emergency services, natural resource management, planning and development, and digital map publications.

Lineage
- Statement
- Dataset Source: The LGA boundaries dataset for Victoria was established by the Department of Infrastructure (DoI) for the Melbourne Metropolitan area and the Land Information Group (LIG) for rural Victoria. Both DoI and LIG established the proposed boundaries via instructions/consultation with the Local Government Board using Vicmap Digital Property (VDP) as the base for the approximate positioning of the boundaries. The definitive Gazettal descriptions were then interpreted from these approximate boundaries. The final LGA boundaries dataset was derived by the adjustment of the approximate dataset to agree with the metes and bounds description in Victorian Government Gazette. In some minor cases (ie in the Gippsland area) Vicmap Digital Topographic (VDT) was used to resolve interpretation difficulties. The Metropolitan and Rural data sets were merged by LIG with any minor discrepancies at the join between the 2 data sets being resolved. DoI has moved their Local Government Divsion to Department for Victorian Communities (DVC) NOTE: In the Government Gazette unless otherwise stated, if the description followed a road it should be should shown along the centre line of that road Dataset Originality: Derived

- Approx. 99%. The methodology used in the establishment of the LGA's was primarily a self-checking process. Further QA was done via a cycle of maps produced for shires. Maintenance of the LGA data set has been done with Gazettal information indicating any alteration to boundaries being forwarded to SII.
Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Varies as per scale of capture of VicMap Digital Prpoerty. Vicmap Digital Property is classified as 'BB' accuracy, ie. 90% of well-defined features are within 1mm, at plot scale, of their true position, eg. 1:500 equates to +/- 0.5metre and 1:25,000 equates to +/- 25 metres. Anecdotal evidence suggests that the spatial accuracy of the major part of the data set, at all scales is frequently better than BB. Within the metropolitan area, 'Melbourne Water' requires subdivisions exceeding nine lots to be submitted in digital form. When input into the base, every effort is made to use this 'survey accurate' data to extend the accuracy of the immediately surrounding detail. No 'shift' of data as a means of 'cartographic enhancement' to facilitate presentation has been employed for any real world feature.
