Abstract:
This dataset is a model of watertable depth at 100m resolution containing interval values of <5m, 5-10m, 10-20m, 20-50m and >50m.The model was compiled as the difference between Digital Terrain Model (DTM) and watertable elevation in mAHD. Both models are at a raster resolution of 100m.

(1) 20mDTM;
(2) NGIS surface water mapping;
(3) the Victorian Stratigraphic Database;
(4) borehole locations from GMS.
Attribute Accuracy:
Attribute values are as accurate as the attributes of the source data used to derive the final dataset.

Data Source:
Dataset Source: Vicmap Elevation 20mDTM, re-sampled to a raster resolution of 100m, was used as the terrain model for the project. Surface aquifer mapping was sourced from the the National Groundwater Information System (NGIS). Bore readings were obtained from a number of existing Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) projects and the Victorian Stratigraphic Database.

(1) water level measurements within the database were adopted from Jan 1980 through to Jan 2007;
(2) standing water levels were taken from all registered bores;
(3) bore locations were adopted from the Groundwater Management System (GMS).

Watertable geometry was compiled for the state using:

(1) models developed by Southern Rural Water (SRW) for Catchment Management Areas (CMAs) south of the divide;
(2) a terrain analysis technique based on the premise that the watertable is a smoothed and subdued reflection of topography.Within the basement areas of the watertable aquifer the result of this analysis was adopted as the watertable model;
(3) bore data and the output from (2) as input to the surface modelling utility ANUDEM. ANUDEM was used to compile the watertable geometry over the plains and other non basement areas.

For those CMAs north of the divide a combination of (2) and (3) were adopted to generate watertable geometry.

The combined watertable depth model at 100m resolution was then classified into intervals of <5m, 5-10m, 10-20m, 20-50m, 50-100.
