Purpose

This layer is to be used to indicate sites and general localities where wildlife have been recorded. It is not a presence/absence dataset and includes both incidental records submitted by the public as well as the results of scientific surveys. Users should take particular note of the MAX_ACC_KM field which describes the MAXIMUM accuracy of the site as a radius around the point. Sites with an accuracy better than +/- 500m are contained in the related dataset VBA_FAUNA25. Taxon records considered sensitive by DELWP are contained in the related (but restricted) dataset VBA_FAUNA_RESTRICTED, or the denatured VBA_RESTRICTED_1M. The dataset contains over 2.1 million points and is best used at large scales or by querying for particular taxa if it is to be drawn across larger areas.

Dataset Source: Victorian Biodiversity Atlas incorporating the Atlas of Victorian Wildlife, Aquatic Fauna Database, Subtidal Reef Monitoring Program and Intertidal Reef Monitoring Program data. These datasets include records from Departmental surveys, Museum of Victoria specimens, Birds Australia atlas, environmental consultants, field naturalists groups, etc. Dataset Originality: Derived
