Purpose

This layer is to be used to indicate sites and general localities where flora taxa have been recorded. It is not a presence/absence dataset and includes both incidental records submitted by the public as well as the results of scientific surveys. Users should take particular note of the MAX_ACC_KM field which describes the MAXIMUM accuracy of the site as a radius around the point. Sites with an accuracy better than +/- 500m are contained in the related dataset VBA_FLORA25. Taxon records considered sensitive by DELWP are contained in the related (but restricted) dataset VBA_FLORA_RESTRICTED, or the denatured VBA_RESTRICTED_1M. The dataset contains over 1 million points and is best used at large scales or by querying for particular taxa if it is to be drawn across larger areas.

Relationship to other Datasets: - VBA unrestricted flora sites with site accuracies better than +/- 500m are contained in VBA_FLORA25 - VBA restricted flora sites are contained in the restricted access dataset VBA_FLORA_RESTRICTED - A 1 minute grid polygon summary of all VBA flora data is contained in VBA_FLORA_GRID_1M These layers supercede FLORA100, THFLO100 and THFLOR500. The species records undergo a rigorous data validtion process, including being passed by relevant experts before the data are accepted into the VBA.

Precision: 500 metres to 10 minutes of latitude/longitude Determination: Localities are generally read from 1:100,00 maps, or sometimes from GPS. A number of checks are made to verify geocode. The accuracy of each record is contained in the MAX_ACC_KM field as a +/- value in km, i.e the value represents a radius around the point.
