- The road boundary has been defined as the driveable extents of the road, excluding turning lanes on the periphery of the road. The following guidng rules have been applied to the definition: From the outer edge of a white road marking to the outer edge of the opposite white road marking; If no road marking exists, the boundary will be the edge of bitumen or kerb; Bike lanes, bus stops and parking areas are excluded from the boundary; Bike lanes are included in the boundary when a vehicle driving lane is further left than the bike lane, and the driving lane is not a turning lane; Turning lanes on the periphery of the road are not included; Short overtaking lanes are not included. The definition of a short lane is to be determined. These lanes will be extracted in a separate layer/level for identification; Rest stops are excluded. Bitumen rest stop lanes have been extracted in a separate layer/level for identification. Gravel rest stops have not been included.

Lineage
- Description
- Road boundary lines as well as road centrelines were mapped from the MLS data. The road line mapping was undertaken in accord with a predefined set of mapping rules that describe how lines should be captured in the range of predominant scenarios that exist along the road. Boundary lines were captured first using semi-automated feature extraction techniques and the then the centreline was mapped as the mid-point between the two boundary lines. Roundabouts and pullouts were mapped manually.
