Purpose

The high spatial resolution makes the data very useful as a base for capture of GIS data at 1:25,000 and for local level planning. It is also very useful as a background image in ARCEDIT and ARCPLOT and can be draped over Digital Elevation Models (DEM25). The image layer is a one channel TIF image and would not be suitable for image processing other than for display.

Relationship to other Datasets: Because TMS25 incorporates multi-date images it may be useful to maintain an associated metadata set describing the dates used. So far, no practical way of doing this has been developed. Current Design Issues: The high spatial resolution makes the data very useful as a base for capture of GIS data at 1:25,000 and for local level planning. It is also very useful as a background image in ARCEDIT and ARCPLOT and can be draped over Digital Elevation Models (DEM25). The image layer is a one channel TIF image and would not be suitable for image processing other than for display. Future Design Issues: The image tiles are based on the Office of Geographic Data Coordination (OGDC) standard 1:25,000 topographic map series. Some image tiles are in double format. Most are in single format. The image tiles are generated such that the best enhancement for each tile is achieved. This may result in non matching image enhancements across tile boundaries. The image format is uncompressed tagged interchange file format (TIFF). This can easily be used by DOS as well as UNIX software. Note that ARC does not currently support compressed TIFF.
