Structural Vegetation (1995)
dataset:
SVEG100
Structural vegetation mapping of forest in Victoria based on the Land Conservation Council (LCC) vegetation classification scheme.
The layer is independent of land tenure and is a combination of existing data from multiple sources (predominantly LCC) and primary mapping based on satellite image interpretation.
Using histoirc 1:63,360 forest maps as a source.

Description
- Title
- Structural Vegetation (1995)
- Alternate title
- SVEG100
- Purpose
- This layer has been produced to provide a non tenure specific structural vegetation layer for the state. SVEG100 has been used to service requirements of the NFI (National Forest Inventory), MDBC (Murray Darling Basin Commission) old growth forest and tree cover studies, but will have wider application for planning activities within NRE. This layer effectively supercedes the older SVEG100_1993 layer and replaces the former LCCVEG100 layer which has been removed from the CGDL.

- Supplemental Information
- Relationship to other Datasets: The layer shares spatial boundaries and derives attributes from a number of library layers including TREE100_9095, TREE100, LSYS250 and LCCVEG100 as well as data from the Box-Ironbark and River Murray Vegetation Mapping projects. The extent of tree cover has been delineated using 1993 tree cover information for the east and north-west of the State, which the 1995 tree cover dataset (TREE100) has been used in the more recently completed south western section. Current Design Issues: To maintain primary structural vegetation attributes in a form that can easily be translated to other vegetation classification schemes. Tree cover boundaries need to conform to those is the TREE100_9095 layer. Future Design Issues: The addition of a forest type item that can group similar structural vegetation classes into common forest types would enable to the data to be presented in a similar form to the old LCC map series more easily. - Description
- Collection Method: Areial Photo interpretation, Satellite imagery and field notes
- Description
- The processing follows the same steps used for SVEG100_1993. A forest type dataset is "cookie cut" with a current version of tree cover to transfer the forest attributes to the accurately defined tree cover boundaries. For SVEG100, 1995 tree cover boundaries (sourced from TREE100_9095) have been used as the "cookie cut" dataset. Therefor, the areas previously mapped in SVEG100_1993 should only differ to SVEG100 in tree boundaries, not in forest attributes.

Positional Accuracy
- Comments
- Precision: 100-500m (for existing data sources) up to 1km (for mapping on freehold land). Determination: Based on drafting and digitizing error for existing data sources and field verification for mapping on freehold land.
Conceptual Consistency
- Comments
- The linework from the existing data sources used varies in detail due to the different mapping scales of the data. Attributes are consistent across whole dataset and their logical associations have been verified.
Missing Data
- Comments
- Mapping is complete for the entire State.
