Purpose

WETLAND_PRE_EUROPEAN is one of three layers designed to document changes over time in the nature and extent of wetland environments in Victoria. This layer is directly related to WETLAND_1994 and WETLAND_CURRENT via the use of a common wetland identification system.

Statement

Dataset Source: The data has been prepared primarily from aerial photo interpretation and used existing geospatial datasets that provided context and informed the identification of wetland boundaries (e.g. vegetation mapping and topography). It was recorded whether pre-European mapping had come from the original 1788 spatial layer or from 2013, 2014, 2017 or 2021 mapping (newly mapped naturally occurring wetlands were added). For features sourced from the 2013, 2014, 2017 and 2021 mapping an attempt was made to determine if the pre-European wetland was larger or smaller than current mapped extent. Dataset Originality: Primary
