Purpose

This dataset is intended to assist stakeholders to determine whether their on-ground actions may impact on communities that have been listed as threatened under the Flora and Fauna Guarantee Act 1988. Under the FFG Act, permits are needed to take protected native flora, which includes FFG-listed communities, from public land. In the absence of accurate on-ground mapping of listed communities, Ecological Vegetation Classes (EVCs) are used to give a broad indication of the extent of native vegetation. It is important to note that these are models, and do not show actual on-ground extent, although in many cases the information has been verified by on-ground surveys. The data therefore needs to be used with caution, and is primarily a 'red flag' to warn stakeholders of the need to obtain proper on-ground assessments when operating close to a possible listed community.

This dataset is a derived dataset and is dependent on the accuracy of the source dataset, ie. NV2005_EVCBCS. It is also dependant on the similarity of the community to one or more BioEVCs. For some communities the fit is very close, but for others the community is described in such a way that a number of EVCs must be included to cover the floristic and geographic range of the community
