Abstract:
This layer plays a key role in the management of Victoria's Public and Government Land.

All Apiary licence sites, including Bee farm and Range licences and Temporary Apiary rights, as defined by Crown Land Management (CLM), are included in this layer. There are a number of sites that may NOT be recorded in this layer because they do not have a valid "Tenure-ID" to assign to the site. A fair bit of data quality work has been done (April - May 2007) in updating this layer to include some VACANT sites that were previously not ever shown.

More data quality work has been completed in January - February 2009 with a number of sites from Gippsland and South West areas added in. One new field called SITE_WC which is the Site Workcentre number used in Gippsland has been added in. Another field that relates to Zoning information for Apiary Management Plans is also included (FEB 09).

The Apiary licence points that are within this layer, have been reconciled against Departmental records. All points have attached a "Tenure number" to the TENURE_ID field where the area is licenced. A "Tenure code" is also attached to the TENURE_CODE field and determines the type of Apiary licence and which Act the licence falls under.

The TENURE_ID & TENURE_CODE fields are used as a key into the LIMS text system (PORTAL) for further details.

Dataset Status: The dataset is complete in so far as only valid Apiary sites that have a current "Tenure-ID" assigned to them are recorded in this layer. Some Vacant sites are not recorded because they do not have a Tenure-ID and are not currently invoiced through Portal. Some data quality work has been carried out (April - May 2007) to show VACANT sites that do have a valid Tenure-ID record. More data quality work has been completed in January - February 2009 with a number of sites from Gippsland and South West areas added in. One new field called SITE_WC which is the Site Workcentre number used in Gippsland has been added in. Another field that relates to Zoning information for Apiary Management Plans is also planned to be included (FEB 09).

Purpose:
Apiary contains point features defining CLM Bee farm and Range licences and Temporary Apiary rights. The points of these licences have been verified by regional staff against LIMS Text data (Portal) and Regional plans and Files, and includes a "Tenure ID" and "Tenure code". The Tenure ID is a unique identifier, and the Tenure code determines the particular type of licence and what particular Act the licence falls under.

The SITE_WC field is the Site number and the Workcentre number used in Gippsland. The ZONE field relates to the Zoning information (1-5) for Apiary Management Plans in Gippsland.

This layer is maintained by regional staff and the master version is updated by the Information Services group.

History: The apiary layer is one of many layers in the LCMP program. Production mapping of Apiary licences commenced in 1991 and was designed to reduce the daily reliance of land administration officers on the old parish plan series by provision of up-to-date cadastral mapping available through new maps or through an on-line GIS (LIMS dq - Display Query). Since 1991, the LCMP has progressively mapped all Apiary licences in Victoria with approximately 100% processed into Arc/Info and part verified, and 94% (by area) of the state fully verified and value-added. Full statewide coverage of verified mapping is planned by LCMP for late-1999.

Relationship to other Datasets: With the nature of Apiaries being an 800 or 1600m radius, they can be covering 1 Parcel or up to many Parcels.

Future Design Issues: The capture of apiary over the City of Geelong is a future consideration.
