Purpose

VLATprovides an accurate representation of various adminstrative boundaries across Victoria, at a capture scale of 1:25,000. It is used in a variety of applications, particularly in emergency services, natural resource management, planning and development, and digital map publications.

Statement

Dataset Source: The data in the rural areas is derived from the LIMS Cadastral Mapping Programs (LCMP) Parish Boundary dataset. This was provided in ArcInfo coverages. The data over the Metropolitan Areas was derived from LIG's Parish Boundary data. This was provided in Microstation design files. Both datasets used parcel boundaries for linework. Updates/ammendments to the dataset are aligned to Vicmap Digital Property. Dataset Originality: Derived

All attributes in the PAT have been verified as correct. 

Positional Accuracy

The datasets that Vicmap Digital Property_Parish has been derived from have traditionally been classified as 'BB' accuracy, ie. 90% of well defined features are within 1mm of plot scale of their true position, eg. 1:500 equates to a positional accuracy of +/- 0.5m or 1:25,000 equates to a positional accuracy of +/- 25m. Anecdotal evidence exists to support the view that the spacial accuracy of the major part of the data set, at all scales, is frequently better than BB. There is no vetical topology. 

Conceptual Consistency

The Parish boundaries have been verified by NRE regional staff against Departmental records for approximateley 98% of the state. Verification involved the markup of plans to clarify the boundaries against Departmental records. All polygons are closed. Nodes are formed at the intersection of arcs and there is only one label point in each polygon. 

Missing Data

Comments

The dataset has statewide coverage, however there are areas where the Parish boundaries are no longer current. Most notably these are due to changes brought about by consolidation of parcels for transfer to the Victorian Plantation Corporation. These changes have not as yet been entirely incorporated into the dataset. Also, some errors with Parish boundaries that are affected by reservoirs are yet to be resolved.
