Purpose

Vicmap Admin provides an accurate representation of various adminstrative boundaries across Victoria, at a capture scale of 1:25,000. It is used in a variety of applications, particularly in emergency services, natural resource management, planning and development, and digital map publications.

Conceptual Consistency

The Township & AT boundaries have been verified by NRE regional staff against Departmental records and government gazettes for approximateley 94% of the state. Verification involved the markup of plans to clarify the boundaries against Departmental records. All polygons are closed. Nodes are formed at the intersection of arcs and there is only one label point in each polygon. 

Missing Data

The dataset is 99% complete. The dataset has statewide coverage, however there are 2 Townships/Ats missing from the dataset. These are under water reservoirs. 

Attribute Quality

All attributes in the PAT for Townships and Ats have been verified as correct. It was necessary to create some additional "townships" to accommodate AT boundaries. In these cases the AT code was used as the Township code. 

Positional Accuracy

The datasets that Vicmap Digital Property_Township has been derived have traditionally been classified as 'BB' accuracy, ie. 90% of well defined features are within 1mm of plot scale of their true position, eg. 1:500 equates to a positional accuracy of +/- 0.5m or 1:25,000 equates to a positional accuracy of +/- 25m. Anecdotal evidence exists to support the view that the spacial accuracy of the major part of the data set, at all scales, is frequently better than BB. There is no vetical topology.

Dataset Source: The data in the rural areas is derived from the LIMS Cadastral Mapping Programs (LCMP) Township Boundary dataset. This was provided in ArcInfo coverages. The data over the Metropolitan Areas was derived from LIG's Township Boundary data. This was provided in Microstation design files. Both datasets used parcel boundaries for linework. Updates/ammendments to the dataset are aligned to Vicmap Digital Property. Dataset Originality: Derived
