  • This dataset is a simplified and generalised version of the NV2005_EXTENT dataset. The parameters of the simplification and generalisation have been set to produce a a product suitable for mapping at scales between 1:400000 and 1:2000000

Where breeding has occurred the year and month where available are listed. The site name is also given where known.

  • This layer contains identified areas of modelled old-growth forest derived from both vector and grid based analysis. Areas delineated as old growth forest are identified to meet the Victorian definition of old-growth forest based on a set of modelling criteria, rules and input datasets. The data is not reliable at scales less than 1:100,000 (ie 1:25,000), not all old-growth polygons have been confirmed by field checking and the reliability of the modelled linework has not been verified.

  • This dataset is a simple polygon layer of rectangular cells aligned to 1 minute increments of the GDA94 latitude/longitude graticule. It is designed for use as an indexing mechanism for point record observations of flora and fauna. The layer covers an area of south-east Australia extending from 139 degrees to 151 degrees 30 minutes EAST and 33 degrees to 42 degrees SOUTH. It thus incorporates substantial areas of South Australia and New South Wales plus all of Bass Strait and the north coast of Tasmania.

  • This layer delineates the extent of Forest Cover in Victoria in 1869 based on a historial map prepared by William Slight under the direction of R.Bough-Smyth FGS in 1866 and revised by A.Everett in 1869.

  • This layer provides the boundaries of significant marine environmental assets which have been identified on the basis of their environmental value (at statewide, bioregional or local significance scale) for marine biodiversity and/or marine ecological processes. Victoria's marine protected areas, including the Marine National Parks and Marine Sanctuaries, are not included in this leayer unless they fall within the boundaries of larger identified asset areas. Separate expert workshops were held to identify these marine environmental assets in each of the following marine regions: Port Phillip Bay, Western Port, Western Victoria and Gippsland. The relative environmental significance of each asset identified was also rated by experts using the following categories: statewide, bioregional or local. Within each category, assets whose value relates primarily to use by birds that are not exclusively marine were rated separately to those whose value relates to exclusively marine species or ecological processes. These significance ratings were assessed separately for each region but the comparability of asset ratings across regions was then reviewed. This supersedes the earlier ASSET_MARINE layer. Blue Whale feeding/ Bonney upweling and Blue Whale Distribution asset areas were also identified through the above process, but have not been included in the layer because they encompass the majority of Victorian waters.
